Viejo (old) San Juan is a stunning area with colorful buildings dating back from the 16th century. On Calle Fortaleza, you will find a gorgeous display that routinely changes throughout the year. To find this particular area, use the GPS address for Anita Gelato Puerto Rico and it will lead you right to it. A short walk away, you will find El Morro - a fort that has been in existence since 1533. Also in Viejo San Juan, you will find the original restaurant where the Pina Colada was crafted - Restaurant Barranchina where you can enjoy the original concoction and an authentic, delicious meal. Condado, specifically the road Ashford Avenue is home to a row of beautiful, fun hotels that capture the essence of a Puerto Rican getaway. Gorgeous beaches by day or lounging by lavish beachfront pools and dancing the night away by evening, Condado holds the fun and warm hospitality you didn’t know your heart needed until you experience it in person. Our favorite restaurant to visit here is called Casita Miramar - you’re welcome. :)

Rio Grande holds so many natural beauties such as the tropical rain forest, El Yunque, full of waterfalls you can hike to, stunning, calm beaches, and breathtaking resorts. This is a very lush city where you can also enjoy ziplining, ATV tours and horseback riding.

Fajardo holds access to calm, crystal clear waters with easy access to charter boats to enjoy all sorts of water sports to your heart’s desire.

Culebra is such an island gem. Only being 10 square miles long yet full of dusty sand and clear waters (so clear you can see your feet!), , Culebra is a short boat ride from the main island. Before heading to Culebra, you’ll want to stock up on any snacks and beverages of choice and your beach essentials such as sunblock, towel, inflatable, and SPF shirt to help you through. This is an all out beach paradise you won’t want to miss.

There’s something special in the waters of Vieques… so much so, wild horses love it and so will you. Vieques is just six miles away from the main island and can be reached by catching a small plane or a ferry that departs from the town of Cieba (visit this link for more info). During the day you will enjoy beaches with mild waves that in the evening hold the brightest bioluminescent waters in the Caribbean. You can tour the waters with the help of a local or a touring company - it is definitely worth experiencing!

Ponce is a quiet town that holds rich history. One museum you can’t miss is the Parque de Bombas - established in the 1800’s one of the coolest fire stations you’ll ever visit. When in Ponce, you’ll want to spend an evening hanging out with the locals at La Guancha where you’ll find a large variety of kiosks selling food such as fresh fish and fried typical foods and cocktails.

Cabo Rojo is dear to our owners (this is their home town). Cabo Rojo is the newest Caribbean cruise port. Why has it been added? Clear across the island from the capital, San Juan, Cabo Rojo is a sleepy beach town where you will marvel at some of the calm, serene beaches such as Combate Beach, Cabo Rojo Lighthouse, and Playa Sucia (which is anything but a dirty beach), and Corozo Salt Flats where you can see gorgeous red lagoons. All beaches on this side of the island will lend stunning sunsets that will leave your soul at peace.

Rincon is commonly known as a surfer’s paradise. This town is the quintessential essence of a beach town. You will find surfable waves, down to earth locals with an easy laid back vibes and many bars and restaurants facing the beach where you can enjoy perfect seaside breeze after a fun day at the beach. Fun fact - from December to mid-April, you can even enjoy whale watching as the humpback whales migrate through the Caribbean.

Dorado is certainly one of the luxurious cities on the island. Home of several upscale resorts, one visit to any of the hotels or the beach, you’ll understand why. You’ll notice many chain restaurants in this city due to the high amount of tourists that visit. One of the local chains you won’t want to miss out on is a restaurant by the name of Metropol.

Spanish for coffee and milk, this staple can be located just about anywhere. Typical cafe con leché is prepared similar to a latte.

If you’re a fan of oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream of rice, or cream of corn like us, you will love the breakfast porridges easily found prepared even at fast food joints or supermarkets each and every morning.

There are pastries in an abundance! If you love cream cheese desserts, try a quesito (Ke-see-toe). Fruits and veggies are not as popular as pastries so this is definitely a time to allow yourself some grace from your standard food regimen.

Frappe is a typical nickname for a jam-packed milkshake. This has become wildly popular on the island as a special treat often offering a combinations that will satisfy your wildest culinary imagination.

Empanadas are a breakfast/lunch/snack/quick dinner staple on the island. Oftentimes ordered with coffee or a malta, the stuffing can be either sweet or savory. Anytime possible, be sure to ask them to fry your empanadas on the spot (the ones on display tend to taste stale).

Puerto Rico claims to be the originator of this delicious drink. Refreshing both virgin or with rum - try both and let us know which way is your favorite!

Plantains are abundant on the island. There will always be a few items listed on any menu that include some form of a plantain - as a side such as tostones, a main dish such as mofongo, or even used to substitute bread. Good news: it’s gluten free, not so amazing news, it’ll most likely be fried.

Desserts such as tembleque de coco, tres leches, flan of any sort are a delicious and are typically accessible at any restaurant

You will find a variation of rice and beans in almost every menu. Puerto Rican default beans are usually red and are served either mixed within rice or served alongside of rice.

Any bakery will serve you freshly baked bread.

When in season, the tropical fruit mango can be found just about everywhere. So in abundance, you can oftentimes park your car on the side of a road and pick your fruit to your pleasing.
